Test Standards for Safety Spectacles

AS/NZ 1337.1:2010 Standard for impact protection is determined by the metres per second in which a projectile travels.

A medium impact safety spectacle rating provides protection from medium energy flying particles, as tested by a ballistic test rig firing either a 6.00mm or 6.35mm projectile ball at 40 metres per second. It simulates hazardous workplace situations such as grinding, machining metals and woodworking.

Low impact is tested to 12 metres per second with workplace situations including hammering and brick chipping by hand.

High impact rating is tested at 110 to 120 metres per second. Workplace situations include concrete and metal cutting. In these instances, face shield protectors are needed.

RSEA Safety stocks over 50 safety spectacles in various styles and colours in our retail super stores (click here for store locations). We also stock a range of safety googles and face shields. Brands include Blue Rapta, Bolle and Uvex.
