P1, P2 & P3 are ratings given to a respirators that meet the Australian Standard AS/NZS 1716. There are three ratings of particle filters: For mechanically generated particles eg. Dust, flour, silica. Suitable for the relatively “large” particles (mostly >1 micron) released in operations like grinding, sanding, cutting, sawing, crushing etc. Protection Efficiency: 80% For mechanically & thermally generated particles. These filters have a higher efficiency to deal effectively with smaller, thermally generated particles such as welding fumes, they are also recommended for infection control applications. eg. TB, Flu or other infectious disease environments. Protection Efficiency: 94% For use with highly toxic materials and/or when a very high protection level is required. e.g. Beryllium, Radioactive Particles.
