Lens Colour Type Description Clear Indoor & Outdoor Provides excellent optics for general applications where impact protection is required. Also available with a positive eye seal option that provides excellent protection against small particles and dusty environments. Amber Indoor Blocks the blue portion of the visible light spectrum, creating maximum contrast enhancement, particularly in low light. Ideal for wearing at night. Light Blue Indoor Serves the same purpose as the amber lens, yet allows visible light through the lens. Also helps reduce glare from artificial light such as halogen and fluorescent lights. Light Mirror Outdoor Serves the same purpose as the grey lens, yet allows more visible light through the lens. Silver Mirror Outdoor Where sunlight and glare cause eye strain and fatigue. ‘Mirror’ coating reflects light, reducing the amount of light that passes through the lens. Blue Mirror Outdoor For outdoor use where sunlight and glare cause eye strain and fatigue. “Mirror” coating reflects light, reducing the amount of light that passes through the lens. Brown Outdoor A neutral density brown lens that provides true colour definition by fighting glare while enhancing colour contrast. Polarised Outdoor A neutral density lens with a polarising filter, reduces glare from shiny surfaces such as wet roads and open water. Grey/Smoke Outdoor Ideal for sun glare that can cause eye strain and fatigue. Photo Chromatic/ Transitional Outdoor Photo chromatic lenses (different manufacturers have their own names) adapt to the UV light intensity, darkening automatically in sunlight, then fading back indoors. The rate of change between clear & dark can take anywhere up to 1-2 minutes. IS YOUR EYEWEAR CERTIFIED? Check to see that the glasses you choose are certified to Australian Standards - AS/NZS1337.1 - Eye & Face Protectors for occupational applications or AS/NZS1337.6 - Prescription Eye Protectors against low & medium impact. Certified products will carry the independent certifier’s logo on the packaging. There are also markings indicating suitability for specific applications that you should look for. PROTECTION FROM IMPACTS All eye protection is tested to be capable of withstanding impact from a specified weighted ball without cracking, detaching or dislodging, breaking or coming into contact with the eye or the head. AS/NZS test requirements categorise impact resistance into four categories: Low Impact (Tested full-face-on at 12m/sec) Medium Impact (Tested front-on, as well as side-on at 45m/sec) High Impact* (Tested front-on, as well as side-on at 120m/sec) Very High Impact* (Tested front-on, as well as side-on at 190m/sec) * High Impact and Very High Impact is applicable to visors only. Visors are the only eye/face products that can be rated to this level of protection. Face shields can be worn over spectacles or goggles to provide double the protection.
