NATURAL & SYNTHETIC GLOVE 
MATERIALS & APPLICATIONS
Safety gloves are manufactured in a variety of 
materials. Each material is designed to protect 
the wearer against different risks or hazards.
Natural Rubber Latex 
The oldest liquid-proof glove material. Excels at protecting the 
wearer from mild acids, alcohols, bases and most diluted solutions 
of chemicals. Commonly used in industrial apps, cleaning and food 
processing & handling. 
Nitrile Rubber 
Made from acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber & contains no latex 
proteins. Ideal for latex-sensitive individuals. Durable and resistant 
to cutting and punctures. High quality nitrile rubber also provides 
very good dry-grip and is impervious to oil, solvents and grease.
Butyl Rubber 
Gas & liquid-tight material which provides good protection against 
strong acids. Recommended when air-tight protection is needed 
against gas & dust.
Neoprene Rubber 
Superior protection against oils, acids, solvents and caustic 
chemicals. Less effective against abrasion & cuts than natural 
rubber or nitrile. Ideal for applications such as manufacturing, 
chemical handling and cleaning.
Polyvinyl Acetate (PVA) 
Resistant to most chemicals & ketones, but are not recommended 
for use in water & alcohol. They protect well against snags, cuts, 
punctures & abrasion. PVA is the only material that provides 
protection against trichlorethylene.
Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) 
Economical protection for workers exposed to chemicals, fats, oils, 
abrasion and punctures. PVC does not contain materials such as 
proteins & accelerators which can cause allergic reactions.
Polyethylene (PE) 
Disposable, economical solution for protection in most food 
service & industrial applications. 
Polyurethane (PU) 
PU Coated gloves offer superior dexterity and perform well 
in alcohols, grease, animal fats, acids and bases, but is not 
recommended for use in 
organic solvents. 
Polyester/Cotton Blends allow the worker dexterity. These gloves 
are often coated with rubber, nitrile or other substances to improve 
grip and longevity. Polyester/Cotton blends can also be used in 
unsupported gloves for lining, and for insulating properties.
Other high performance materials such as DuPont™ Kevlar®, 
Dyneema®, Dynamax® & Spectra® are used where cut resistance 
and strength is of high importance.
